Greenways Trust
Creating opportunities and providing support for work, recreation and home life.
About Us
Greenways Trust is based in Dargaville and is a registered charitable trust. Established on 22 October 1991, Greenways was previously called the Greenways Ground Maintenance Team, with our new name adopted in 2007.
The Trust provides residential homes for twenty people, as well as operating a social enterprise that provides employment opportunities and work skills. For those who do not have the ability to work safely in our social enterprise, we offer a day programme where they can enjoy participating in various activities and outings.
All our activities uphold our philosophy to promote the integration of people with an intellectual disability into a participating role within the community. Our aim is to enable them to be as independent as possible, to enjoy their rights as New Zealanders, and to live a life of choice.
Community Activites
Greenways Trust is well known throughout Dargaville. A number of businesses and organisations support us. In return, Greenways Trust residents are actively involved in various sports (rugby, Special Olympics, walking basketball, golf), at the local swimming pool, volunteering at the Anzac Theatre, working (for Kaipara Refuse, The Good Life, and pamphlet delivery) to name a few.
Our Work
Our work comprises of firewood processing and woodwork. We teach a range of skills, including the splitting, sorting, stacking and bagging of wood. We also have a well-resourced woodwork bay where there is the opportunity to learn woodworking skills. We produce a range of chopping boards, wooden spoons and other items which are sold through markets and stores.
We are currently looking to expand into producing raised garden beds, domestic fencing, garden furniture and bookshelves.
Our Services
-
Greenways Trust is proud to sell quality, well seasoned firewood. We offer a selection of bulk wood (by the cubic metre) or bagged firewood.
-
Our team is happy to take on section clearing services including; raking, light pruning, blowing, weed whacking, trash pickup and more! Give us a call and we will happily come and quote on your work. We also love to help with landscaping and are good at spreading the mulch and wood chip that we sell.
-
We have a newly established vegetable nursery. Our aim with this is to teach people new skills, give them an alternative working opportunity to our firewood depot, and to meet a need in the market for native riparian plants. When we are not busy with native plants then we will be growing seedlings for use in our own gardens at each of our houses with surplus for sale to the public.
Any seedlings will be sold through our venue at the Old Post Office (OPO) on the corner of Hokianga and Normansby Roads.
-
Our residential services are funded by Whaikaha. These include; supported living in one of our 4 homes, a day programme, and individualised support.
