Achievement House
Our Mission is to create opportunities for disabled people to be engaged in work and social activities that are meaningful to them and to participate in communities of their choosing. We welcome visitors to come and see what it is we are achieving here in Cambridge.
About Us
As a Disability Enterprise we as specialists in the assembly, collating, labelling and packaging of lightweight component’s for industry and business. We charge out at a market rate for this work and use income off it to directly reinvest into our business so to remain solvent and operational.
We work with a variety of businesses across various industries to keep a diversity of work and income streams. Achievement House is a purpose built workshop in Wilson Street with a special environment which offers varied and appropriate work to develop employment skills for clients who are capable of moving towards temporary or permanent open employment.
Our History
Achievement House was founded as a sheltered workshop in 1976.
Our purpose was to provide people with a disability with vocational/ work/ occupation activities and opportunities for social interactions in the community of Cambridge. It also provided residential supports for people.
Prior to the deinstitutionalisation process we were one of the few small, localised community-based organisations doing this residential support work in the community. Our vocational focus has not changed and is where we direct most of our efforts on as a Disability Enterprise. We continue to do some flatting/residential and social work/advocacy styled supports for those who require it though we have no contracts or funding support to do so.
